Former Toyota driver Timo Glock believes that having the Schumacher name back in F1 in the form of Mick Schumacher would be a great thing for F1. Son of Michael, Mick is currently leading the Formula 3 championship after a string of highly impressive performances recently.

Speaking to German publication Rheinische Post, Glock confirmed that Schumacher could be ready for a step up the motorsport ladder, with moves to GP3 or F2 not far off for the rising star.

“I’ve talked to him a couple of times and I think for him, his best options now are GP3 or Formula 2,” said Glock. “Either way, he would be closer to F1.

“If F1 had a Schumacher again, it would boost the interest in Germany.  Right now the ratings are good with an average of four million viewers. But at the height of Michael Schumacher, it was more like 10 million.

“The current drop is normal and we saw it when Boris Becker and Steffi Graf finished their (tennis) careers.”

Schumacher is locked in a tight F3 battle with Red Bull junior driver Dan Ticktum for the championship. Up until recently, Ticktum had been leading the standings however a win for Schumacher on Friday in race one at the Red Bull Ring in Austria meant that Schumacher assumed the lead of the championship.

There is no doubt that the Schumacher name back in F1 would be a huge draw for casual and hardcore fans alike, if the young German keeps his current form up then we may see it return to F1 sooner rather than later.
