Sebastian Vettel still believes he's capable of winning this year's title race for Ferrari, despite going 40 points down to Lewis Hamilton with only six races to go on this year's calendar.

Vettel was the clear favourite for the past two races in Italy and Singapore respectively, but he disappointed in both races, with Hamilton getting an unlikely win on both tracks.

At Monza, the two collided and Vettel ruined his own race as he broke his front wing in the first lap, causing him to finish only fourth. In Singapore, Vettel qualified in third and ultimately stayed there, with Max Verstappen losing out on second place before taking it back after a failed Ferrari undercut.

Now, with six races to go, things are not looking good for Ferrari. Still, Vettel wouldn't be Vettel if he didn't think he still has a fighting chance.

“First, [I think I can still win] because I can - I’ve proved it four times," he told Bild.

“Second, because we have a car that is on par with Mercedes.

“Singapore didn’t help - It’s disappointing if you can win races and you do not.

"But I still think we can only beat ourselves.

“I can still become world champion with my own power and so I’ll continue to fight."

When asked if he thinks his aggressive driving has been a reason why Hamilton is ahead, the German reminded where his driving has gotten him.

“My driving style has given me four world titles and 52 victories,” he explained.

“Everyone is afraid to fail, and I’m as aware as anyone that sometimes when you risk, it goes wrong - but you can’t let it paralyse you.

“Ayrton Senna said that if you don’t go for a gap anymore, you’re not a racing driver, and I agree.

“If we win every race from now on, we are safe - that must be the goal from now on.”
