Red Bull driver Max Verstappen produced a brilliant drive in Singapore last weekend to secure second place and interrupt an intense battle between winner Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel.

The talk pre-Singapore was dominated by the title battle that is in progress between Hamilton and Vettel, but Verstappen's faultless performance in Asia deserves more credit than it has gotten.

The media have crazed about Hamilton's excellent drive at the Marina Bay Street Circuit - and rightly so, it was a huge performance from the Mercedes man.

However, the lack of attention that Verstappen has received is surprising from an outside point of view.

Mika Hakkinen said in his Unibet column earlier today that the Red Bull youngster deserves a lot more credit for his superb drive in Formula One's night race.

There was mass controversy after Verstappen refused to give up his place to Valtteri Bottas in Italy following their collision and the driver being informed about his penalty.

Verstappen, at the time was clearly furious with his anger pouring out on Red Bull's team radio and it may have been a distraction for the Dutchman the following Grand Prix in Singapore.

It was anything but that, the performance from the 20-year-old, who is no stranger to the controversy on and off the track, was impeccable.

The maturity level of Verstappen was something I personally, was very surprised to see in Singapore - there is such a hype around the highly-rated driver; and Singapore showed me a bit more of a complete Verstappen designed puzzle.
