Red Bull set to switch back to Spec-B engines in Russia

Christian Horner has announced Red Bull are considering a switch back to Spec B engines for the Grand Prix in Russia. Despite a strong result, Max Verstappen wasn't without his engine problems this weekend. Whenever he was not at full throttle, the power unit would throw him into a false neutral.

If they are to switch back, they will have to take a grid penalty.

"[Spec C problems are] something that hopefully can be tidied up the next time we use this engine. The likelihood is, we'll be using the B-spec engine at the next Grand Prix," Horner told Motorsport.

Spec-B is known to be much more reliable. Renault have already sent a warning about the Spec-C engine reliability. With the back-end of the season fast approaching, Horner is keen to get the issue fixed.

"I think the problem is, because of the torque generation, with these ambient conditions, the engine wasn't optimised," he added.

"I think the guys did a good job to patch it up as best they could. But you ended up with inconsistent torque delivery and then that causes the gearbox to get out of sync, and a false neutral is to protect the gearbox."
