Lewis Hamilton left his rivals searching for answers after a blistering lap put him on pole for the Singapore Grand Prix. On a track that looked to be Ferrari's to lose, Hamilton conjured up some qualifying magic to leave title rival Sebastian Vettel 0.6s down on his time.

Speaking to Martin Brundle immediately after qualifying ended, Hamilton described his lap as "perfect" with nobody coming within three-tenths of a second of his fastest effort.

"Wow, wow. That was a hard qualifying session. That lap felt like magic. I don't know where it came from but it all came together.

"Huge thank you to all the team. Everyone is working so hard to pull out extra bits. For that one lap I managed to get it right.

"Honestly I'm super overwhelmed. My heart is racing.

"I don't think there was a moment in the lap that was wide or any problems. It was just perfectly to the limit. It felt like one of the best laps I remember feeling."

The fight for pole hotted up in Q2 with Red Bull finally showing their hand and making the fight a six-way fight for first, Ferrari though will be feeling like they have missed a huge opportunity with Singapore seemingly the perfect track for them to run away and claw some vital points back on Mercedes and Hamilton.

The start for tomorrows race could be crucial for the championship and Hamilton has set himself up nicely with one of the best laps of his career.
