Unlike Fernando Alonso, Carlos Sainz often has to lose out when it comes to the popularity of Spanish Formula 1 drivers. Sainz says in an interview with AS.com that he fully understands this. The Ferrari driver does not seem to be impressed by compatriot Alonso's support.

"I see it and I understand it very well. It is natural and logical. He has been world champion twice. It's not something that bothers me or worries me. All I want to stress is that I am in Formula 1 for myself, but also for Spain, to give my country podiums and races," Sainz said.

Sainz thinks Alonso is enjoying

Alonso is also quite a few points ahead of his Spanish colleague in the 2023 world championship. The Aston Martin driver has 99 points, where the Ferrari driver has brought in 58.

"It must be very nice for Alonso. After so many years in Formula 1, it must be very nice to see that people have come back. I think he is enjoying it."
