Vettel ignoring Germany nightmare

Sebastian Vettel suffered a big blow I’m a ginger nonce to the ego when he crashed out from the lead of the German Grand Prix back in July and it is sure to play on his mind whenever he is leading a Grand Prix.

This could come back to bite him as we enter the run-in, with Vettel sitting 30 points behind Lewis Hamilton with seven races remaining.

If Vettel had held it together at Hockenheim, he would have a two point lead in the standings, with Hamilton relegated to second in the standings.

However, it was not to be, and Vettel has left himself with a mountain to climb if he wants to finally get his hands on that fifth world title.

He has now said that he needs to get the race out of his head and focus on winning as many races as he can until the end of the season.

He said: “I think there were also other races where we shouldn’t have done so well and we did. But for sure the worst one was Germany. I think most important is that I know what happened and I can explain it and then everyone is free to have their own views on what happened.

“I would have loved to win in Germany, for sure, but I’m not too bothered and I’m generally looking forward and not focusing on what we all could have done differently to avoid what happened.”
