Vettel admits he is his own worst enemy

Sebastian Vettel has made plenty of mistakes this year as he looks to chase that elusive fifth world title and admits that he and Ferrari need to look at themselves if they want to win the titles this season.

Vettel currently trails Hamilton by 30 points in the drivers’ standings, with Mercedes also ahead in the Constructors’ standings, by 25 points.

With seven rounds remaining, it is still possible for a turnaround, but it will take a serious loss of form from Hamilton and a big turnaround by Ferrari if that is to happen.

Vettel hit Valtteri Bottas on the opening lap of the French Grand Prix, crashed whilst in the lead of the German Grand Prix and spun on the first lap of the Italian Grand Prix.

These mistakes have cost him a healthy amount of points that will be tough to regain in the closing rounds of the season.

Vettel said: “I think it is pretty straightforward for me. I think the biggest enemy is me and I think we have a great car, I have something to play with and we have all the chances to do it in our way.

“Obviously he [Hamilton] is the leader at the moment, he’s the one ahead and he is the one to beat, but I think we have all the chances and how much they could be better by now and so on is a different question.”

If Vettel can get back on form and Ferrari can get their act together, we are sure to be in for a cracking end to the 2018 campaign.
