With a P11 for Charles Lecerc and a P5 for Carlos Sainz in Spain, Ferrari is far from where it wants to be. Team boss Frederic Vasseur has no idea what is going on in the races. Indeed, it seems to be a different problem every race.

Ferrari took just 10 points with them from Spain, trailing Aston Martin, but especially Mercedes, even further in the championship. Title chances and challenging Red Bull Racing no longer seem possible. The most painful thing after seven races is that Ferrari has no idea where it is going wrong. Every weekend it seems to go wrong somewhere else.

Vasseur at a loss for words

The only thing that does go right are the qualifying sessions. The Ferrari is fast in free air. Vasseur told GPBlog and others after the race that he had no idea what to do: "Honestly, if I knew that it would be fixed, because we have 1,000 people focused on this now, it's very difficult to understand and to fix it, because it's not always the same problem"

The only explanation Vasseur can come up with is that the disturbed air during following another car in the race is killing the team: "It's true also that in Quali you are in free air, and in the race you are not. For example, Charles struggled a lot on the first stint, but he was also closer to the guy in front of him. It's probably where we have to be for now."
