Domenicali wants to keep Alonso in F1: 'He has something special'

Fernando Alonso has been around for a while in Formula 1. The Spaniard switched to Aston Martin this season and seems to be feeling a lot better since then,a dn Stefano Domenicali would like to see Alonso driving in the sport for many more years.

Alonso made the surprising switch from Alpine to Aston Martin this season, and it proved to be an excellent choice. The British team has made huge progress over the winter, competing for a spot on the podium every weekend, while Aston Martin finished seventh in the championship last year.

Domenicali wants to keep Alonso

Alonso is the most experienced driver ever in Formula 1, but he is now 41 years old, which seems to mean the end of his long career. "I would like to see him for many, many more years. He has to make the decision himself, but I want to see him for as long as possible. Fernando has something special," the Formula 1 CEO told AS.com.

Domenicali on Alonso's success

The new partnership between Alonso and Aston Martin has proved very successful in 2023. The Spaniard was on the podium in five of the six races but has yet to win. "Now he can finally fight for the podium again. I am sure he is pushing the team to make sure they can fight for wins, he has been very consistent in the first few races of the season. He will be there until the end to win."
