Although Fernando Alonso is not yet competing for wins in 2023, the Spaniard's performance in the relatively strong Aston Martin car looks like a comeback. And even with a slightly better car, the almost 42-year-old F1 driver could challenge Max Verstappen, a fight that everyone, including Pedro de la Rosa, would love to see.

De la Rosa is currently an ambassador for the Aston Martin F1 team. The Spaniard knows Alonso well and is on top of his compatriot's achievements at Aston Martin. With Jos Verstappen as his teammate in 2000, the Spaniard is also familiar with the Verstappen family. Speaking to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, De la Rosa looks ahead to a possible battle between Alonso and Verstappen.

Alonso and Verstappen are gladiators

"It doesn't matter so much what we want, I think the great thing is that Max and Fernando themselves would love it if they could fight each other. When it's 3pm on Sunday afternoon, for Max and Fernando it's like being at school and the teacher says work is done and you can go play in the schoolyard. That's how they feel about it."

It could become THE new rivalry according to De la Rosa, a battle in which it is extremely difficult to assess who comes out on top. De la Rosa: "Who wins then? Man, that's so difficult. I think they are very evenly matched. Then it really revolves around the small details on the day."
