Mick Schumacher took victory in the first F3 race of round eight at the Nurburgring. Schumacher took the lead of the race with a decisive move into turn one on teammate Robert Shwartzman, down the inside of the Russian driver.

Schumacher didn't have it all his own way, a safety car closed the relatively small gap he had over Shwartzman but the German didn't buckle under the pressure. A race-long battle with his Prema teammate ebbed and flowed with the leader's gap down to under a second towards the end of the race.

A recovering Dan Ticktum was able to catch the lead battle and pressured Shwartzman which in turn, allowed Schumacher to escape at the front. The Red Bull junior driver had dropped down to fourth at one point but was able to recover into the podium positions with a move around the outside of Ralf Aron towards the closing stages.

Schumacher's win means he moves to within 26 points of championship leader Ticktum with two races remaining this weekend at the Nurburgring.

A move to DTM could be on the horizon for Schumcher in 2019 according to German publication Kolner Express. Writer for the publication Helmut Uhl added that touring cars would be on the agenda for Schumacher but did hint that a seat in F2 is in his sights for next season.

"Mick would like to discover how a touring car feels in contrast to the Formula 3 car."
