Perez expresses regret to Red Bull after Monaco crash: 'They don't deserve this'

Sergio Perez balks at himself after his costly mistake in qualifying forced him to start the Monaco Grand Prix last. In a Red Bull Racing press release, he reaches out and expresses regret to his team, which Perez says "does not deserve" this.

"I am really disappointed with myself today," said a dejected Perez. "It was going well; I was happy with the balance and in Q1 naturally you are progressing and finding new limits." Entering the corner, however, he lost the back end of his car before reaching the apex, which he said left him with no way out.

Looking back on the crash, Perez puts his hand in his heart. "I cannot believe what I have done. This mistake is too difficult to digest right now, I don’t know what to say, I am just sorry for my team, they don’t deserve this," the 33-year-old Mexican continued.

Red Bull Racing will look at the damage to the RB19 and make decisions based on that for the race, which Perez will have to start as the straggler. "We would have been in the mix for sure today, so it is doubly disappointing, it was a big opportunity for us," continued the Red Bull driver, who speaks of a "big blow" in the championship.

"If it’s a normal race it will be hard to do anything tomorrow, I have a fast car but it’s nearly impossible to pass here with these wide cars, it is going to be tricky to make progress, but we will try everything," Perez added.
