Hakkinen says Ferrari need to be perfect to beat Hamilton

Ferrari are making a bit of a meal of this season, with plenty of people believing they have the fastest car on the grid but are just being out-thought by Mercedes and out-raced by Lewis Hamilton.

This was made clear in Italy last weekend when Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel sent the Tifosi into raptures during qualifying, locking out the front row of the grid.

However, on Sunday, they battled at the start, leading to Vettel falling back and tangling with Hamilton, ruining his race.

Hamilton took advantage and overtook Raikkonen for the race win and opened up a 30-point lead in the drivers’ standings to Vettel in the process.

And now double world champion Mika Hakkinen has said that Ferrari need to work together better and produce perfect races if they want to get the better of Hamilton and Mercedes.

The Finn, champion in 1998 and 1999 wrote in his Unibet column: "No one can say that Lewis is there because the Mercedes has a major advantage.

"He shows great race craft and does not make mistakes of the kind that Sebastian Vettel has made, especially at race starts.

"To beat Lewis, Ferrari now needs to do a perfect job every weekend and hope that Mercedes has some problems.”
