Honda and Alonso together after all? Krack sees Alonso continuing until 2026

Fernando Alonso and Honda may get back together, according to Aston Martin team boss Mike Krack, believing that the 41-year-old F1 driver could still be at Aston Martin in 2026.

Krack does not rule out Alonso for 2026

The oldest driver on the current F1 grid has yet to show any signs of an imminent retirement, and if it is up to Aston Martin, the Spaniard will not be not going anywhere either. That could ensure that Alonso and Honda do get back together in 2026 after a bickering farewell in 2017.

During his time at McLaren, Alonso was often furious with the engine supplier. The most telling words for this partnership were those of the Spaniard, as he said, "GP2 Engine!" while mid-race, commenting on its lack of power. But now, a reunion in 2026 seems far from out of the question, even though Alonso is about to turn 42. But Krack informed as.com that "there is no reason to think he will not be in the car with us in 2026."

Alonso most experienced F1 driver ever

Krack continued: "I really can't think of any reason why he wouldn't be there by then." It is almost remarkable how confident Krack is in Alonso. In 2026, he will turn 45 years old. The Spaniard will probably be in the top 40 oldest drivers ever by the end of that season. And that is remarkable, because the bulk of older drivers than Alonso all drove in the 1950s and 1960s. The last time a driver drove in F1 over 45 years old was Graham Hill in 1975.

What makes it even more remarkable is the fact that Alonso is also the sixth youngest ever debutant in Formula 1. Alonso already holds the record for most Grands Prix starts and is currently already the most experienced F1 driver ever.
