Massa insists on title 2008: 'Other sports correct it too'

Felipe Massa has not driven in Formula 1 for more than five years, but is still stubbornly holding out for an F1 title opportunity. For the Brazilian, it is not about a title opportunity that he can still get on the track. Massa wants to dethrone Lewis Hamilton in 2008 and get his own F1 title.

Felipe Massa is aiming for 2008 F1 title

Massa recently indicated in an interview with Brazil's Esportelandia that he is not yet giving up his fight to topple the results in the 2008 championship. Following statements by former F1 owner Bernie Ecclestone about cheating during the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix, Massa opened the attack.

Indeed, there was alleged cheating during that race, and Ecclestone confirmed that this had long been clear. Renault driver Nelson Piquet Jr. deliberately crashed so that Fernando Alonso could win the GP. Massa argued that this left him just short of the points to win from Hamilton in the championship. The Brazilian revealed he is not letting it rest yet.

'Other sports do adjust results after cheating'

Massa said: "In 2007, McLaren copied Ferrari's car. They were then disqualified from the championship. They were punished for what happened. In my case, no punishment was handed out." Massa does not see why, in his case, changes cannot also be made to the result afterwards: "Look at football, there the results are also changed after cheating. That also happens in other sports."

Massa revealed that he is currently still investigating the possibilities of officially challenging the result. The Brazilian said it is a stolen race and that it was pure manipulation, so he is now fully within his rights to challenge it.
