Miami-Dade's mayor has intervened and cacelled a delegation's fact-finding trip to the Singapore Grand Prix.

The Miami Herald said at the weekend that the delegation of county administrators, which includes Police and Fire Department chiefs, would fly to Singapore in an attempt to gain a clear understanding of how a Grand Prix works, behind the scenes.

The trip would have cost $18,000, but earlier this week, the mayor Carlos Giminez intervened and cancelled the trip for the workers.

"Upon further reflection, I've asked the directors of PortMiami, Miami-Dade Police and Miami-Dade Fire to cancel their departments' trip and to look for a venue closer to Miami-Dade County," the mayor said in his statement.

Despite this, a group of officials from the American city are still going to attend the Singapore Grand Prix, following an invitation from F1.

October 2020 is the target they have set themselves for the event to take place, following cancellation of plans to have the Grand Prix for next season.

The potential event has caused a lot of fuss with citizens of the city, who believe it would cause too much chaos for what it's worth - noise and disruption to the city.

This is just yet another fresh twist in the story but the workers will be determined to learn as much as they possibly can in Singapore.
