Lewis Hamilton has upset Ferrari by winning the Italian Grand Prix in their own backyard, as the Brit overtook Kimi Raikkonen for the lead in the last 10 laps to win his 68th career Grand Prix.

The race started in controversial fashion. Brendon Hartley got tagged by Marcus Ericsson and the Kiwi was done for the afternoon, but it was at the front where the more dramatic stuff happened. First, Verstappen overtook Bottas with a nice move to take P4.

Approaching the second chicane, Hamilton went for the move on the outside of Vettel. The German understeered and spun as he hit the Brit's car, and the Ferrari broke its nose and bargeboard. He had to come in and his chances of winning were over, meaning it was up to Raikkonen to bring it home for Ferrari. Hamilton's car was fine, meaning he could still charge for the remainder of the race

The Finn was truly flying at the start. No one was getting near him, with Hamilton several seconds behind him. He put in fastest lap after fastest lap and looked to be impossible to catch, especially after Hamilton pitted and came out almost six seconds behind the Finn. However, Bottas, who was on incredibly old tyres, was used by Mercedes to hold up Raikkonen and allow Hamilton to get close. That he did, and when Bottas eventually gave up and gave Raikkonen the lead, Hamilton was withing DRS-range.

At the first chicane, Hamilton took the outside and braked slightly later than Raikkonen, meaning the Brit had the inside line on the second turn of the chicane, forcing Raikkonen to yield. It was a matter of time anyway, as the Finn's tyres were incredibly blistered. When Hamilton got passed him, he was gone within laps. Raikkonen limped to the checkered flag, bringing home P2 for Ferrari on what was his 100th career podium.

Vettel was flying past everyone at the back of the field, but the German simply had too much ground to make up to get anywhere near the podium. He did well to get back into P4, and to get in a window to get past Max Verstappen, who got hit with a five-second penalty for pushing Bottas off the track in one of the final laps. That same Bottas mustered a podium finish on P3, meaning Mercedes have again done a fantastic job for both championships. Hamilton leads Vettel by 32 points now, and Mercedes have pulled away from Ferrari as well.

A fantastic race as always at Monza, the last European race on the 2018 calendar.
