Steiner: "Quite a few" drivers want Haas seat

Haas have improved majorly in their third season of Formula One, having finished eighth in their first two season in the sport, they are currently sitting in fifth place, breathing down Renault’s neck in the race to be the best of the rest of the constructors.

Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen have both been regularly scoring points recently, it has now been six races since Haas last failed to score a point, in Canada.

Grosjean’s return to form has been welcome and Dane Magnussen has been a consistent force all season.

Haas struggled to attract drivers when they announced they were joining F1 in 2016, with only Grosjean keen to jump into the new team.

The American team partnered Grosjean with Esteban Gutierrez, although the Mexican failed to score a point and was replaced by then McLaren outcast Magnussen.

However, it is a different story now. Magnussen has matured and makes a good team with Grosjean and now team boss Gunther Steiner has revealed that plenty of drivers have shown interest in joining the team.

“I would say we had a lot of approaches, and I respect everybody approaching us. But the driver market, I think it’s falling into place now anyway,” he said. “You know exactly what I’m talking about, who we would have spoken about, and we still need to make our decision.

“In the beginning it was difficult to find anybody to drive for us, and now quite a few people want to drive for us for obvious reasons. It has changed and turned around.

“Again, I’m very confident, I’m not losing any sleep about not having two good drivers next year, because we have got two ones now, so we are good.”
