McLaren are impressed by junior driver, Lando Norris' adaptability as rumours grow that Norris will get a McLaren seat for the 2019 season.

McLaren's Sporting Director Gil de Ferran reveals that the team are very impressed with Norris, who is currently a junior driver at the Woking-based side.

Fernando Alonso, who is retiring from the sport at the end of the season, he has already been replaced by McLaren - with Renault driver Carlos Sainz Jr. driving the MCL34 next season.

Sainz is still unsure who his team-mate will be at McLaren with the future of Stoffel Vandoorne looking increasingly unlikely as the season goes on.

Sergio Perez and Esteban Ocon, who both drive for Force India, have both been linked with a move to the side.

Norris was handed his debut FP1 run in Belgium last weekend, and this Friday - the youngster will drive the MCL33 again on the Monza track - but this time, in place of Vandoorne.

"One thing he certainly has is he adapts himself very quickly to any new situation," de Ferran told Motorsport.com.

"I've seen that on the tests that he had and the same thing happened here. As part of his development, we wanted to bring him (into FP1) because of different downforce levels, a lot more cars on the track, a lot of track evolution and wanted to give him that experience.

"He came up to speed very quickly and did a fine job for us, didn't make any mistakes. He was absolutely fine."
