Former F1 driver Giancarlo Fisichella has denied that soon-to-be retired driver Fernando Alonso is a "trouble-maker" despite claims from Red Bull team principal Christian Horner.

Fisichella was Alonso's team-mate at Renault between 2005 and 2006 and said things were perfect when they were racing together.

"We shared two very nice years together," the former Renault man told El Mundo Deportivo newspaper. "There was an atmosphere in the team that I have never encountered before.

"We were friends and we got along very well. Together we won everything. We had an optimal relationship and friendship."

Fisichella is obviously very fond of Alonso and good mates with him, and the Italian wished the Spaniard all the best for the future - wherever that will be following his retirement from the sport.

"I would tell him to continue doing what he knows how to do best," Fisichella said. "He has achieved so much and I wish him luck."

There was a team-mate of Alonso's who wasn't as fond of him, in the shape of Felipe Massa - who disagrees with Fisichella, and thinks that Alonso is a trouble-maker and that he isn't very good in a team environment.

"I have to admit, it was not easy to live by his side," Massa revealed last week. "He can split a team. We saw that in many racing teams he drove for. Maybe he could have made more of his talent without this trait."
