Fernando Alonso once again looked fast in free practice, finishing first in FP2, although this may not be entirely representative because of the rain that affected the session. The Spaniard does hope that conditions stay dry in Australia for the rest of the weekend.

Alonso has finally made a good switch in his career. The two-time world champion switched from Alpine to Aston Martin this winter. Last year, the British team finished seventh in the championship, but this year Aston Martin is really the second team anyway, behind the dominant Red Bull Racing.

Alonso does not want rain

After 20 minutes in the second free practice session, it started raining at Albert Park, preventing fast times. Before that, Alonso had set a quick time, topping the time sheets as a result, with a time that Max Verstappen in his Red Bull could not beat on the same tyre. However, the Spaniard hopes the rain will not continue in Melbourne for the rest of the weekend.

"So far though the car seems to behave well. The forecast tomorrow looks dry for now, and we would welcome that given we only experienced these conditions in the previous two races," Alonso said in a press release from his team.
