Alexander Albon is cautiously optimistic about Williams ' chances at the Australian Grand Prix. By Total-Motorsport.com Albon says that although he still sees Williams as one of the slower teams, the tight margins in the midfield certainly present opportunities.

Overshadowed by the surprising success of Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin, Williams is also enjoying a strong start to the season. The British racing stable, which has been mercilessly condemned to last place in recent years, has already managed to score a point in the first two races of this season and has consistently raced around 10th place.

Still, Albon remains somewhat cautious. " I still think we are on the fringes of ninth or 10th position [of the constructors]," the Williams driver explained. "After the two races, it feels like the gap from P10 to P20 is just a couple of tenths. When you are fighting at that kind of delta, it’s all about optimising and I really like that. I hope it continues all year. Coming here, the car feels good, the car suits this track and the last two races we have been in contention for points."

Williams no longer reliant on bold strategies

Williams seems to be one of the teams benefiting most from the tight battle in the midfield. AlphaTauri, Alfa Romeo, Haas and McLaren are all so close to Williams that the battle for the final few points has become very exciting. This has allowed Williams to compete for points with more regularity. Just last year in Australia, Albon managed to score his first point of the season through a bold strategy where he did not make his first and only pit stop of the race until the very last moment.
