A poor start to the season for McLaren means major structural changes within the team. Lando Norris reacts to the imminent departure of technical director James Key and assesses his chances of F1 points for the Australian GP.

Andreas Seidl left the team in the winter of 2022-2023, evidently not leaving a strong McLaren behind. The team of Norris and Oscar Piastri now led by Andrea Stella and Zak Brown has yet to score a point in 2023 after two Grands Prix. Norris was plagued by bad luck in those two races. Teammate Piastri did show there is speed in the McLaren with his P8 qualifying in Saudi Arabia.

'Points possible in Australia for McLaren'

Speaking to Sky Sports, Norris said, "Looking at the past, how we have done here in Australia, this is generally one of our better performing circuits. I want to have the faith that we can continue that trend here this year [...] If we just have a clean weekend now, I see no reason why we shouldn't score any points."

On Key's departure, Norris cannot say much. The Briton says there are always changes happening within the team, but admits Key's departure is a real headliner. Norris: "Zak and Andrea are doing what they believe is best for the team. I have faith and confidence in what they are doing."
