Nyck de Vries must have imagined his entrance into Formula 1 differently. After two races, the former Formula E champion has collected zero points, as many as his teammate Yuki Tsunoda. For now, Alpha Tauri's season seems to be shaping up to be a tough one.

In a press release from his team, De Vries addressed his team's current situation: "We are realistic and smart enough to understand that, at the moment, we won’t be fighting for race wins with Scuderia AlphaTauri, so we just look for our own little victories within the championship. Obviously, as a team, we want to be further up the grid and be more competitive in going for points, and we will continue to strive and push for that."

Alpha Tauri seeing continuous process

Alpha Tauri is coming into Australia with some updates. How much it will bring De Vries and Tsunoda is hard to say. "but it’s impossible to say what effect that will have, as other teams are also pushing and developing, so it will be an ongoing process that will hopefully allow us to be a little bit more competitive within the midfield but until qualifying, we won’t know."

He continued: "Obviously, there is always a little bit of optimisation to do with the car as it is, but it’s also a moving target. If you add performance to the car, then we might need to reassess or rethink how we execute the best performance out of it, but we clearly need more points of downforce, so we will have to see what the upgrades deliver."
