Williams has had a lot of difficult years. In 2020, the British team did not even manage to score a single point in the world championship. Last year, they did score points, despite finishing last in the championship. Slowly, Williams is trying to find its way back up.

Since this year, James Vowles has been Williams' new team boss. The former head of the strategy department at Mercedes has previously admitted to taking on a difficult challenge, but he sees things improving at his new team.

The results show that, Alexander Albon scored a point in the opening race in Bahrain. In Saudi Arabia, the British team was less successful, Albon dropping out with problems and Logan Sargeant finishing 16th. Still, it is clear to see that the FW45 is a lot more competitive than its predecessor.

Vowles on atmosphere at Williams

Vowles has only been Williams' team boss for a few weeks now but sees that the team is improving and that there is new, fresh energy in the team. "The best word I could use is ‘spark’, There's a spark and it's fascinating to see. There are shoulders lifted, there’s heads held high now, there is really direction that they can see where we're going and how we're moving forward," said the team boss at Motorsport.com.
