Former driver turned pundit David Coulthard has said that the title fight between Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton could be amongst the greatest ever to happen in the history of Formula One. Both Vettel and Hamilton are fighting for a fifth world title, a championship that would cement either man as one of the best to turn a wheel.

At the halfway stage in the season, the championship lead has already swapped a record-tying five times between Vettel and Hamilton, a fight that looks to be going all the way to the wire in Abu Dhabi with Ferrari and Mercedes so closely matched.

"This season we have one of the best title bouts in a long time and possibly the best ever." he is quoted as saying by Today.net. "It will go down in history. Lewis and Sebastian are not just extremely fast and focused but completely different characters.

"And in Valtteri Bottas and Kimi Raikkonen, they have two good teammates who do not necessarily play the water carrier."

Despite both drivers admitting that a small mistake could decide the title, Coulthard disagreed saying that the title would be won on the driver's merits rather than mistakes.

"In the end it will be the strengths that are the decisive factor, not the weaknesses.

"It's because of their strengths that they're in the lead. Only after Abu Dhabi should we tally up who made the most mistakes and how many points he lost. Not before.

"He (Hamilton) does not like trouble, actually. After Baku last year, for example, he wanted talks between men to clear things up with Vettel. Sebastian is similar, but he's a family man and very mature. I think they respect each other on a sporting level, although they're too different to be friends."
