Max Verstappen was again by far the fastest in the third free practice session of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The top three was further completed by Sergio Perez and Fernando Alonso, the same result as the Bahrain Grand Prix at the start of the season. Nyck de Vries was the only one not to set a time in the session: his car received a new power unit, preventing the Dutchman from taking part in practice.

Verstappen set a time of 1:28.485, giving him a lead of over six tenths over the number two. Sergio Perez also kept the rest of the field well behind. Only then did things get exciting, as Mercedes went into battle with Aston Martin, Alpine and McLaren. Ferrari was conspicuous by its absence: only at the end of the session did the Italian stable set a fast time.
