Marko: 'Statements Russell comes from frustration in Bahrain'
Red Bull's Max Verstappen won the first race of the season in Bahrain. Leading by almost 12 seconds over teammate Sergio Pérez and 39 seconds over Fernando Alonso, Verstappen proved unbeatable in his first race of the season. George Russell said about this that Red Bull will win every race this season, Helmut Marko refuted these statements in conversation with Motorsport.com.
Frustration from Bahrain
The 25-year-old Mercedes driver saw Verstappen's gigantic lead and said afterwards in Bahrain that Red Bull will go on to win every race this year.
Asked about the Briton's statement that Red Bull will win every race this season, Helmut Marko said,"No. This statement by Russell can perhaps be explained by the current frustration from Mercedes' race in Bahrain."
"It was a race on a circuit where the tarmac is rough, therefore the tyres wear faster.
Exceeding budget cap
After Red Bull exceeded its 2021 budget cap, 10% less time in the wind tunnel was allocated. Marko says about this that it was necessary to proceed with a good plan in the wind tunnel ahead of the current season.
Clearly, Red Bull has so far not been affected by the imposed penalty. George Russell finished 55 seconds behind Verstappen in seventh place in his black car, two spots behind teammate Lewis Hamilton who finished in fifth.
