Pierre Gasly believes he is "ready" for Red Bull if the team do call him up from their sister team, Toro Rosso.

Red Bull have to make a decision on which driver should replace Daniel Ricciardo in the paddock next season, following the Aussie's shock announcement that he will be teaming up with Renault for the 2019 season.

Pierre Gasly, who currently drives for Toro Rosso, who are owned by Red Bull, is one of the names that is in contention.

Carlos Sainz Jr. has been in a Renault car this season, and he too is in contention due to being contracted with Red Bull already.

Gasly believes that he is ready to make the step up to the third-placed side if called upon.

"Yes, I would like that but I'm not thinking about it too much," the Frenchman told Marca.

"I am happy with my season so far at Toro Rosso, I'm happy to be here. At the moment, nothing is decided, I think.

"It's a similar situation to Carlos. We're both waiting to see what happens."

The 22-year-old isn't concerned that if he moves to Red Bull too soon, then he would end up like Daniil Kvyat and end up without a place in Formula One at all.

"No. If I'm fast, I'll have my chance," Gasly added.

"I need to focus, make sure I'm fast and the rest will come.

"It depends how you see things. Look at Red Bull and all the drivers who did not reach the first team, or look at Verstappen, Vettel, Ricciardo and the others who were successful."
