James Vowles is Williams' new team boss this season. He has made the move from the Mercedes team, where Vowles was the head of the strategy department. Now, as team boss of Williams, he will try to push the British team further forward in the field.

Williams has now been driving at the back of the Formula 1 field for years. The team has often struggled to score points. This year, they seem to have it better, as Alexander Albon scored one point straight away at the Bahrain Grand Prix. The aim is for Vowles to make the team perform even better. Although, according to him, it will take some time before big changes in performance are actually visible.

"The pathway's not one of months, but years", Vowles told English BBC Sport. Vowles also says his job has disappointed him a bit anyway. "It was about what I expected, but maybe a soupçon of being slightly worse."

Vowles on cause of problems

Vowles thinks he knows the cause of the poor performance in recent years, a lack of investment and the many different team bosses. He thinks that since the team was bought by Dorilton Capital in 2020, the team has been heading in the right direction. They can provide the team with the necessary funds, though. This has made Vowles rise to the challenge as team boss of the British team.
