Logan Sargeant finished his first race for Williams in 12th position. A good result, as Williams' lap times during practice and the winter test were by no means promising. Speaking to GPblog and others, Sargeant reflected on his first race weekend in Formula 1.

Sargeant can look back on his debut race with satisfaction. The good-humoured American qualified 16th and managed to climb to 12th in the race. For some time, the brand-new Williams driver even drove in the points. After the race, GPblog asked him what exactly was the highlight of his first race weekend.

"Qualifying is always my favorite, I would have loved to get to Q2 and keep pushing on a bit but to be honest I think, I loved the race today. I honestly loved every second of it, the on-track battles, but probably the start and the first lap was special."

"I just looked for the gaps and tried to fill them," Sargeant continued his reflection. "I didn’t ask for too much but it just fell my way. So I really enjoyed it, it was super fun."

'We didn't expect to get to this point'

This is a big step forward for Williams, as the team was condemned to last place last year and could only move further forward through luck or bold strategies. Now Sargeant was on the edge of the top 10 and his teammate Alex Albon in 10th place even managed to secure the first points for the team.

"Everything went very smoothly," Sargeant said happily. "I’m really happy with the pace that me and Alex had. I think the team has done an amazing job all weekend to unlock that pace. We probably didn’t expect to be where we are compared to the test and that’s just a massive testament to the work the team has done, and I’m super proud of everyone."
