It’s a full year since Robert Kubica made his long awaited comeback and tested for Renault in a private test at the Hungaroring.

It should have been impossible for the Pole to ever make a return to single seater racing after his horrific rallying accident in 2011, but now he has revealed that he feels up to speed with the demands of F1 as he looks for a full-time race seat next season.

Kubica is currently Williams’ reserve driver and has taken part in many tests for them, and has shown good pace.

Recently at the in-season test in Hungary, Kubica recorded a lap time faster than either of the Williams driver managed in FP3 at the same track the previous weekend.

Kubica said: "Twelve months ago I tested for the first time with Renault, and now I can say that everything is easier for me.

"A year ago everything was new, especially with the new generation of single-seaters. From now on, everything is more familiar, easier, I have more confidence."

Kubica also became one of the first drivers to test the new, simple front wing that is set to be introduced into the sport next year, although he did not reveal too much about how it felt to drive.

"I do not know, it's too early to say anything. It was simply collecting information for the aerodynamicists and seeing how it affects the rest of the car and how the aerodynamic flow is distributed."
