Lando Norris waiting for Fernando Alonso to make a decision

Upcoming British driver Lando Norris has confirmed he is waiting for Fernando Alonso to decide on his future before committing to a 2019 deal. The McLaren junior driver currently sits second in the F2 championship.

Both Alonso and Vandoorne's future remains a mystery for next season. Alonso may well move to IndyCar to hunt down the triple crown while Stoffel Vandoorne struggles to find form.

ESPN asked the 18-year-old about his future. He admits he's desperate for an F1 seat but preparing to weigh up his options.

"It's very difficult to say, especially being in the situation we are right now with no-one really knowing what Fernando wants to do next year.

"Obviously it'd be very nice to be in Formula One, but at the same time staying with McLaren, maybe it's better to be saying: 'I want to be doing these FP1s, have more opportunities to drive in Formula One', if there is confirmation that I might be offered a seat in 2020, maybe that's a better opportunity and a situation to be in.

"Until everyone starts making decisions, I don't really know what to say."

Norris was linked to making a move to Toro Rosso becoming part of the Red Bull driver school. But this is unlikely as Norris would prefer to stay at McLaren.

Anyhow, he's one to keep an eye on. We tip him to become one of F1's future stars.
