Formula 1's preseason is now in full swing. While all teams have now presented their cars, three test days will take place in Bahrain next week. For Ralf Schumacher, the preparations in the past were far from smooth, he told Sky Sports Deutschland.

The German drove in Formula 1 for many years between 1997 and 2007, twice taking fourth place in the drivers' championship with Williams. Although he had fond memories of that period, he says the first few months often did not go as smoothly as it looked.

"You could see how the car was in the first five laps. It's been more often negative than positive in my career, unfortunately," Schumacher began, laughing. "But you really knew immediately. As nice as it often looks then: you knew there was another big problem and it would all take a long time."

Schumacher's challenge at Mercedes

The former Formula One driver also addresses the situation of Mick Schumacher. The talented driver left Haas F1 after two seasons and has the role of reserve driver on his shoulders this race year. His uncle thinks this is a good choice.

"For the teams, it's great to have someone like Mick. He knows the road and circuits. Mick is fresh out of the car, so to speak. It's also a good opportunity for him. With four chances [he is both a reserve driver for Mercedes and McLaren], the chance is greater for him to be able to fill in."
