Rodrigo Sanchez, the head of marketing for the Mexican Grand Prix, recently made some remarkable statements about the race. Speaking at a business conference on sports, Sanchez claimed that the Mexican Grand Prix is one of the three biggest sporting events in the world.

Sanchez was by no means modest when he spoke about the Grand Prix he does the marketing for. " There are three sporting events worldwide that stand out from the rest: the World Cup, the Olympics, and the Mexican Grand Prix," Sanchez is quoted by Esto. "We are very proud to be seen worldwide as an important reference point in Formula 1."

'We are the best party in the world'

But Sanchez was not done bragging yet: according to him, since 2016, the Mexican Grand Prix has attracted an average of two and a half million visitors, created more than 80,000 jobs in the tourism sector, additionally provided 85% hotel occupancy and $800 million in profits on the race weekend alone. Sanchez did not present a source for his figures. The number of visitors in particular is a remarkable figure, as the circuit has seating for only 110,000 people. In turn, the number of TV viewers is much higher, with an average of three million Mexican viewers in 2015, after which the race's popularity has only increased.

Sanchez does, however, have a clear explanation as to why he believes the race is so popular. "We are the best party in the world because the Mexican atmosphere is unique. I can give you the playbook and you can try to replicate it anywhere, but it won't work because you miss the Mexicans."
