Vettel blames lack of grip for collision with Bottas

Sebastian Vettel doesn't blame Valtteri Bottas for the collision they had yesterday. Instead, he blames the lack of grip the Finn had with his old tyres.

The Mercedes driver was followed directly by the Ferrari driver in the second half of the race. Eventually, Bottas was forced into a mistake and Vettel went charging through. The two then made contact.

"Obviously I felt all of a sudden that I got hit from behind. I think for him there wasn't really anywhere to go. I don't blame him," Vettel said in an interview on Grand Prix 247.

“I think he had no grip, obviously when you’re so close it’s very difficult to stop the car and I think he locked up and we made contact. For me, I realised straight away that I had a much better run and my rears were in better shape.”

After the race, Bottas had his say on the incident.

"I still had my nose inside into Turn Two, he was on the outside, he turned in very early and for me, there was nowhere to go.”

A fair reflection from both drivers. We are getting used to the two rival teams touching on track this season. At least this one didn't end in the same tears at Silverstone.
