There is a real chance that the Las Vegas Grand Prix will stay longer on the Formula One calendar, as reported by Las Vegas Review-Journal following a meeting of the Clark County Commission. The vote that took place at that meeting ensures that a longer collaboration with the motorsport class is quite possible.

For the first time since the 1980s, Formula 1 will be back in the US city this season. The organisers of the event made a commitment that runs until the end of 2025, but both parties seem intent on continuing with each other for longer.

Proposal passed unanimously

Among other things, the new track will go along the iconic Strip, which will be illuminated in the evening. At the Clark County Commission meeting, members voted on the possibility of completely closing it for a few days a year until 2032 to allow Formula 1 to take place here.

As many as seven members were reportedly in favour of the decision, which meant the proposal was passed unanimously. It means there seems to be little left in the way of negotiating a longer contract with Formula 1. This calendar year, the GP is scheduled for the weekend of 18 and 19 November.

“We anticipate a lifetime together in partnership,” commission Chairman Jim Gibson said. “This will open the pathway to be able to do it for at least 10 years. Beyond that I’m sure those who succeed us will see the volume in what we’ve done and continue it forever.”
