Ahead of Red Bull Racing's hugely anticipated Formula 1 car launch, Ford have confirmed they will return to the pinnacle of motorsport in 2026. The company say they are excited to rejoin the highest level of motorsport. They competed as themselves in the 1960s and then had a long sponsorship deal with Cosworth. Ford Cosworth went on to win multiple championships, including with Michael Schumacher in 1994.

Excited to return

Ford have featured in 10 constructors’ championship wins and 13 drivers’ championship wins. They haven't been seen in the sport since 2004, and Formula 1's plan to reduce carbon output in 2026 has helped entice them back. Bill Ford, the Executive Chairman at Ford Motor Company gave his thoughts on the return.

“This is the start of a thrilling new chapter in Ford’s motorsports story that began when my great-grandfather [Henry Ford] won a race that helped launch our company. Ford is returning to the pinnacle of the sport, bringing Ford’s long tradition of innovation, sustainability and electrification to one of the world’s most visible stages," Ford said.

Red Bull Racing's car launch is due to start 30 minutes after Ford made this announcement. After weeks of rumours and suggestions, it seems as though Red Bull will be teaming up with Ford for the 2026 season and beyond. GPblog will continue to report on this news story throughout the day.
