Jacques Villeneuve attacks Hamilton's "staged" antics

Lewis Hamilton cast a figure of disbelief after qualifying on Saturday that turned into jubilation on Sunday at last week’s German Grand Prix. And surely it is obvious why this seems to matter so much to Hamilton, battling his rival Sebastian Vettel for the championship, in what would be the victor’s fifth world title win.

However, a former champion is not impressed by Hamilton’s antics, along with his social media activity.

Jacques Villeneuve won the 1997 F1 World Championship driving for Williams, becoming the first and so far only Canadian to win the title.

Villeneuve criticised Hamilton, saying: “He confuses Formula One with Hollywood. Everything he does is staged. He portrays himself on social media like he is Jesus.

“The way he knelt next to his car after his problem in qualifying looked like the suffering of Christ. And what he said afterwards was the Sermon on the Mount.

“Then he gestured so dramatically on the podium that everyone could see who sent the sudden rain.”

It isn’t the first time Villeneuve has been negative about a British driver. During his time as teammate with Jenson Button, likening the Brit to a member of a boyband, and saying at the BAR car launch that he would not respect Button, who became F1 champion in 2009.

Is the Hamilton criticism deserved or is it just Villeneuve going back to his old ways? Let us know below!
