Fernando Alonso admits he won't be racing in Formula One in 2021, when the new tyre regulations become applicable.

McLaren driver Fernando Alonso has confirmed that he won't be around in F1 to drive with the new tyre regulations, when they hit the sport in 2021.

Alonso was being interviewed by RaceFans.net and was asked what his opinions were on the plans to introduce new 18-inch wheels in 2021 and Alonso replied: "I think it's not a big thing. I will not be here in 2021, so I don't care."

The Spanish driver has been racing in Formula One ever since 2001 and earlier this season, he had his 300th race in the sport.

Formula 1 have also confirmed plans to reduce the width of the front wheels and ban use of tyre warmers in 2021.

Alonso's team-mate Stoffel Vandoorne has played down the impact of the changes set to be made in three years time.

"I don't think it will change very much," the McLaren man said.

"There's already a lot of series that don't have tyre blankets so I think whatever tyre manufacturer it will be I think they will get on top of that.

"The rims they've kind of tested a couple of years ago as well. I think it's quite easy for the teams to adjust to that."
