Ferrari's new team boss Frédéric Vasseur called the rumours surrounding major engine improvements at the Scuderia a joke. Instead, he reports that steps have been taken mainly on reliability.

Recently, La Gazzetta dello Sport revealed that the team had found thirty horsepower thanks to modifications to the engine. However, Vasseur indicates that none of this is true and firmly contradicts the rumours surrounding the gains.

Joke

"As for the engine and those figures, I don't know where those figures came from, but it's all a joke," the team boss began in conversation with Motorsport Week. Currently the engines are frozen until 2026 and Ferrari is not allowed to tinker with the performance of the power unit, but at the same time the team had major reliability problems to solve. The Italian raceteam has therefore been working on reliability, with which Ferrari is said to have found 30bhp. Indeed, Vasseur confirmed that work has been done on the engine, but that it has not necessarily improved performance. "We have made some steps in terms of the engine, but it is only about reliability," the team boss stressed.

Repair

The Frenchman stresses that Ferrari's engine did not perform badly last season. "I think last year's performance was not a problem at all, but the problem was reliability, and the first goal is to fix it," the team boss stresses. He adds that it looks good so far, but the reality on the track is a different perspective.

Bahrain

It was not just the reliability of the engine that was an issue last season. "I think some of the problems that the team suffered from, and it's not just Ferrari in terms of reliability, also stemmed from the bouncing and vibration," Vasseur explains. To what extent the problems have been solved will remain to be seen. "Everyone will have a much better picture in Bahrain," the team boss concludes.
