Lewis Hamilton saw Mercedes fight mainly with themselves last season. It meant that the world title was soon out of sight and the German formation had to work hard behind the scenes to start the line up. According to the Briton, the racing year has brought many positives.

The seven-time world champion saw that Mercedes experienced one of its most difficult years historically in 2022. For instance, according to Hamilton, the team "didn't build a great car", making it impossible to stay close to Red Bull Racing and Ferrari for a long time.

"I've worked with this team for 10 years," the Mercedes driver stated in Jay Shetty's podcast. "People have opened up like they've never opened up before, [for example] people have cried. It's been beautiful to see."

Positive development at Mercedes

Although Mercedes captured as many as six world titles with Hamilton, and was also successful in between with Nico Rosberg in 2016, he saw that the stable managed to grow last calendar year. The Briton expects this to help the team in the new season.

"I feel it's a far better team than we've ever been before, because we're living with intention," Hamilton explained. Partly by remedying porpoising, the driver hopes the formation will be able to return to competing with Red Bull and Ferrari on a weekly basis in 2023.
