McLaren looked set to benefit greatly from the new regulations last season, but the opposite proved to be true. Whereas in 2021 the British formation could still frequently compete with the top teams, a year later it had to settle for a place in the sub-top of the standings. Zak Brown, however, remains confident.

The British CEO still believes McLaren can compete for wins in 2025. Indeed, the fact that last season's performance was down also means something positive, according to Brown. Indeed, the team showed in difficult circumstances that it stayed upright.

"In a positive year there's learnings and there's failures along the way," he glanced at it opposite ESPN looking back on last calendar year. "I think we're a better racing team today than we were a year ago. That's positive. I look at the way we started '22 with our brake issue in Bahrain."

"It was iffy if we were even going to race in Bahrain. So the positive of that was I was impressed at how the team reacted, how quickly they fixed the problem," said Brown, who finished fifth among constructors with McLaren.

Brown not yet satisfied

Although McLaren has made a lot of strides in recent years, Brown believes the end is far from in sight. He is convinced that there is now a strong foundation around the team, but that it must eventually lead to wins in races and championships.
