Racing on a dry track is obviously no problem for a Formula 1 driver, but a wet track is not for everyone. GPblog lists the nine most impressive drivers in the rain.

Senna: king in the rain

It is probably no surprise that Ayrton Senna is the most successful F1 driver in the rain. Nicknamed Rain Master, the Brazilian was a class act on a wet track. He soon came to be known as the king in the rain, and his statistics only confirm that. His overall win rate in Formula 1 is 25.3 per cent, but of the races he raced in the rain, he won more than half of them (55 per cent).

Current generation of drivers in the rain

While no one else comes close to Senna's high percentage, there are plenty of other drivers who have impressed on a wet track. Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher have both won 36 per cent of their races in the rain. For both drivers, that number is higher than their overall win percentage.

Max Verstappen is closing in on fourth place. The Dutchman has impressed on a wet track on numerous occasions, with the 2016 Brazilian Grand Prix being the highlight. Overall, Verstappen has a 26 per cent win rate in the rain.

Jenson Button's statistics are also striking. The Briton has the lowest win percentage in the list, but his win percentage in the rain is a lot higher at 18 per cent. Senna's rival Alain Prost managed to win 12 per cent of his rain races.

Finally, Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen complete the list. Although their win rate in the rain is a lot lower compared to drivers like Hamilton and Verstappen, they too are among the most successful drivers in the rain.
