Lewis Hamilton has frequently opened up about his childhood, which he did not experience as easy. In the On Purpose podcast, he describes his school days as "the most traumatising and difficult part" of his life.

"At that particular school I was probably one of three kids of colour, probably the most traumatizing and most difficult part of my life," the Mercedes driver says in a Instagram post from Jay Shetty, in whose podcast he can be heard on Monday.

Hamilton: 'My dad never let me cry'

The bullying made him doubt himself, but his father taught him to suppress those feelings. "My dad never let me cry as a kid. He said that it was a sign of weakness," the Brit continued. Suppressing pain and feelings was new to him and he admits there were times when he would have preferred to give up.

"The easiest thing in life is to give up. The hardest thing is to keep going, but we have to," Hamilton says. He therefore urges anyone who doubts themselves to never give up. "A lot of people are struggling to find that purpose. But it’s okay. You will find it. Do not give up," the Mercedes driver said.
