Who slept well/bad after the German Grand Prix

23-07-2018 12:12

It’s been about 24 hours since the Germany Grand Prix. We take a look at how teams and drivers are feeling after having a nights sleep (or a sleepless night in some cases!). Did you all enjoy the Grand Prix! Let us know your favourite bit in the comments!

So who slept well?

Lewis Hamilton

He’s back into the championship lead, and by some distance. When he climbed into his Mercedes yesterday in 14th, he’d have had his damage limitation cap on. However, everything turned out to be damaging to his rival Sebastian Vettel. To add to the drama, he was called to the stewards which could have ruined his day. But no. He got the green light and could relax into the night.

Nico Hulkenberg

He finished 5th picking up 10 points for Renault in front of his home fans. A great track for him to get his best result of the season on! To go along with this finish, he gets the ‘best of the rest’ medal from Germany. He worked hard, and we’re sure he would have partied harder into the night. A much-needed sleep for Nico!

Force India

Ok, they have their financial issues with the team reportedly about to drop into administration. But with the majority of their jobs looking safe, this shouldn’t cause too many nightmares for those involved. On the track, Perez and Ocon both finished in the points again. Out of the mid-field teams, they come away joint top in terms of race points. They’re level with Haas in the constructors' championship and they are developing well.

Romain Grosjean

For once, the Frenchman scored points and his team-mate didn’t. The conditions weren’t easy either and plenty of fans expected the Haas driver to make a mistake. He proved his doubters wrong and would have jumped out of bed on the positive side this morning.

Who slept badly?

Sebastian Vettel.

Very obvious. He was leading his home race, looking as if he was going to get a bigger championship lead and he went off the track. You could see the frustration as he banged the steering wheel after the crash. He’d have been replaying this over and over again in his mind as he attempted to get to sleep. To make matters worse, he’s still not won in Hockenheim, and that was his first none points finish of 2018.

Daniel Ricciardo

He wasn’t expecting a good result, but he also wasn’t expecting his car to break down. The idea was that he would take all the penalties in Germany, to be ready for a traditionally strong Red Bull track in Hungary. He will be praying in his sleep that he doesn’t have to take another penalty next weekend.

Honda

After all the buzz and expectation that Honda were finally getting themselves together again, Toro Rosso engineers had to change Gasly’s power unit prior to the Grand Prix. The Japanese manufacturer still have a lot of work on their hands before they go to Red Bull next season.
