February is an exciting time: the cars for the new F1 season will be unveiled. Where most teams do this with a 'show car' (their 2023 car with a special livery to make everything a bit more spectacular), Aston Martin wants to do it differently.

Like last year, the English team plans to reveal the original car right away on 13 February, so there will be no special livery involved. "[It] will be the real AMR23. We're not going to disappoint fans," said technical director Eric Blandin.

The Frenchman also indicates that the unveiling is not the most important thing for his team: "Eighty per cent of my time is currently focused on the aero department – on delivering an ambitious programme of updates for the season. Launch is important but it's only a stepping stone; we need to develop the car throughout the campaign."

Porpoising

On the team's website, Blandin addresses a few questions regarding the new car. It also addresses the phenomenon of porpoising. Many teams were plagued with this distinct aerodynamics problem last season. It can be recognised by the bouncing of the cars on the track.

"It won't disappear completely. It's something that's inherent within this set of regulations. You've got big tunnels channelling air underneath a car that is running very close to the ground and effectively has a skirt created by the floor edge that's sealing the air in – this combination is what makes the car susceptible to porpoising."
