Lando Norris has the potential to win a Formula 1 world title in the future. However, the Briton tells GQ Magazine that he is realistic and that this coming season is unlikely to be in the cards.

A lot has changed at the British formation in recent months. During last season, it already decided not to continue with Daniel Ricciardo, who then left for Red Bull Racing to become a reserve driver. Andreas Seidl also left the racing stable: he decided to take up an offer from Sauber.

With Andrea Stella as the new team boss and Oscar Piastri as the second driver alongside Norris, the team hopes to continue the growth of recent years. In particular, they needs to focus on catching up with Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes in 2022.

Norris honest with himself

McLaren hopes to stand with the world title within a couple of seasons, but this coming race year comes too soon, according to Norris. The talented driver is aware that in the two years that follow he does need to be ready to compete with the likes of Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.

"With everything I’ve learned, maybe I could win a race," Norris stated to Medium. "But I’m unlikely to win a championship until possibly that time. I know I need to be at the absolute top of my game in those years.”
