Williams Racing Academy driver Ollie Gray will compete in this year's FIA Formula 3 championship with top team Carlin.

Gray finished second with Carlin in the 2022 British Formula 4 series, the 17-year-old taking two race wins and 16 podium finishes in the racing class. Gray will continue to work closely with Williams Racing as a member of the junior academy, but the young Brit will also wear the colours of the Grove-based team on his F3 car this year.

Collaboration continues

"I am very excited to make the switch to F3 in 2023 with Carlin and to continue my partnership with Williams Racing as an Academy Driver," he said in the Williams press release. "It will be a big challenge, but I am really looking forward to it and to working with the team, with whom I get on well."

Sven Smeets, Williams sporting director, said the F1 team is looking forward to supporting Gray's development in 2023 and seeing what he can achieve in F3. "After a very strong season in British Formula 4, we felt it was only right for Ollie to make the natural progression to Formula 3 with Carlin," the Belgian said. He continued: "During his first year as part of our Driver Academy, Ollie has shown his talents on the track with numerous wins and podiums and at Grove, working with the team."
